Building Self-Trust: A Guide to Listening to Your Body and Soul
There are a lot of lessons learned by traveling the world.. solo. Add to that traveling as a solo female who is simultaneously running a business, & traveling with celiac disease.. & wow. If you don’t already know parts theory, quick study. Our spirit/soul/self has many parts, and their job is to protect us, to comfort us, to help us navigate life. I believe that ALL of these parts of me have helped me understand that navigating life’s journey isn’t just about the hustle; it’s about cultivating a deep, trusting relationship with yourself. If you’re struggling to understand your body’s signals, the core issue might be a need to develop self-trust. Here are a few pointers to help kick-start this life changing process:
1. Make Realistic Promises: When we break a promise to ourselves, we teach ourselves that we can’t be trusted. So rather than going for gold, try instead to create achievable promises. It doesn’t mean you can’t dream big, but rather try building steps to the goal/dream you want.
2. Adjust Your Expectations: If you find yourself repeatedly falling short of your own expectations, it’s okay to reassess. Start with small, attainable goals and celebrate those wins! Back to point 1, self-trust is the foundation of grander dreams.
3. Practice Self-Compassion: We all stumble. It’s part of the human experience & it’s almost a necessary in personal growth. When this happens, try not to spiral into self-criticism. Instead acknowledge the miss, learn from it, and move forward with self kindness.
4. Understand Your ‘Why’: Get clear on the reasons behind the commitments you make to yourself. When your goals are aligned with your values, it’s easier to stay on track. Do you want to exercise every day because you think society needs you to be in shape? Or is it because you want to live a long, enjoyable, healthy life. Personally, I’ll take the 2nd. 😉
Remember, the relationship with yourself sets the tone for every other relationship you have. Build trust within, and watch how it transforms you. If any of this resonates with ANY aspects of you, I would love to hear which and why!
