Free Rent in Sardinia? How Remote Workers Can Thrive in Ollolai’s ‘Work from Anywhere’ Program

Okayyy Sardinia! Have you heard of this?! 👀 Sardinia began offering digital nomads a FREE stay last year in October! Covering rent, utilities, bills, and services in return for knowledge on digital nomadism. Y’all - this is EXCITING! And for those who haven’t had the budget to start.. this is an amazing first stop!

This initiative is just another step forward in the extended stay traveler movement. The village of Ollolai is where this is specifically happening in Sardinia. 🙌

Ollolai’s population has dwindled from 2,250 to just 1,300 over the last century. To counter this, the village has launched several initiatives, including the famous “buy a house for €1” program that I spoke about in a post a couple of weeks ago & now this amazing opportunity for remote workers. The village aims to rejuvenate its community, & what better way than to invite extended stay travelers from all over the world to bring their skills and knowledge?

The “Work from Ollolai” program has a time limit of 2 years, so don’t wait too long! Your invite will be for a period of 3 months. The catch? It’s a bit of exchange. Simply contribute to the community by leaving behind a piece of work such as a conference, essay, research paper, or documentary. This reciprocal agreement enriches the village culture while offering a serene, inspiring environment for longterm travelers to thrive.

Now, for the exciting stuff (for me at least). The accommodations include former homes for farmers and shepherds (!!) - except they are now equipped with offices & high-speed internet, making them perfect for remote work.

What I love most about this initiative is the blend of professional and personal growth it offers. It’s not just about having a beautiful place to stay but also about contributing to the local community, sharing your knowledge, and leaving a positive impact.

So, if you’re a digital nomad looking for your next adventure, consider applying for this. And of course, if you’re interested in learning more about extended stay travel or have questions, check the link in my bio for my email signup. I don’t send a ton of emails, but when I do it’s things like this - with ALLL the details.
