Finding Peace in Bali: How the Island of the Gods Became My Final Nomadic Chapter
Bali had been on my bucket list for a long, long time. From the first moment I saw the bamboo architecture, buried deep in a tropical setting, I was in love.
Bali is a place I had planned & failed to visit twice for various immigration reasons (3rd time’s a charm 😉).
When I had begun to imagine a life of travel, Bali took priority in my mind.
So, it seemed appropriate to be the final stop on my fully nomadic lifestyle journey ✈️🌍.
Known as “Island of the Gods”, Bali really does have a mystical energy to it. This Indonesian island is known for its deeply spiritual culture. There is always some sacred religious festival happening with locals dressed in traditional attire, so much passion & color & all the decorations are made from natural sources like flowers & banana leaves!
A standout aspect of Balinese spirituality is the daily offering practice, “Canang sari,” - locals offer woven baskets filled with flowers, rice & incense as gifts to their gods. These are placed in temples, on small shrines & even at the street corners, to maintain harmony with the spiritual world.
Their faith is a blend of Hinduism & ancient local beliefs, making it a fascinating spiritual destination.
There are few places in the world that have this deeply spiritual energy. A place to go for healing, enlightenment, enrichment. Whether in Bali for a weekend or a decade, it seems that everyone you meet is on their own spiritual journey.
My final stop here was Ubud, the spiritual epicenter of Bali with incredible yoga, meditation & sound bath studios overlooking endless jungle, serene sunrise viewpoints amidst rice paddies, healthy vegan & gluten free food & tranquil accommodation in nature.
Everything about Ubud is grounding & healing for your mind, body & soul, from the yoga, to nature, nutrition, the spiritual nomad community & the deeply connected locals. I spent my last days here as a full time nomad looking inward & feeling so grateful for the journey that travel has taken me on but feeling ready to start writing a new life chapter!
This island is magical & it was here that I really found peace.
Where have you found the most peace during your travels? ✈️
