Live la Dolce Vita: A Year in Italy with the New Digital Nomad Visa

Italian summer - make it a year, with Italy’s new Digital Nomad Visa! 👀 Now THAT is extended stay living!

With your remote work and the recent introduction of Italy’s digital nomad visa, this could be your golden ticket to living that Mediterranean life.

As someone who has lived the nomadic lifestyle, I understand the allure of Italy — the history, stunning landscapes, fresh pasta, delicious gelato, sunshine, lower living costs and a language that sounds like music 👀

Italy’s new visa program came into effect in just April earlier this year and to apply for a year long visa, all you have to prove is that you:

1. Have an annual income of just under €28,000.
2. Have your own health insurance coverage
3. Show that you’ve booked suitable accommodation in Italy.
4. Have a background of at least 6+ months as a digital nomad or remote worker.
5. Have no criminal record (fair enough 🥲).

So if you can tick all of these boxes, then you just need to get to an Italian consulate and provide the above documents with your passport.

Then, once you arrive in Italy, you have 8 days to apply for a residence permit, which is essential for your legal stay. This visa is valid for an entire year and is then renewable as long as you continue to meet the above criteria.

This is SO exciting for nomads but also for Italy - it’s been a rough ride for many years in the south of Italy with many of their young people leaving to find better job opportunities abroad, so Italy’s digital nomad visa represents a significant shift towards accommodating the modern workforce needs, bringing life back to these places! 💃

As I transition away from full-time travel, the idea of having a base in such a romantic country is incredibly tempting but I’m grateful to be enjoying my current base choice for now 👀.
