Blending Respect and Comfort

The importance of respecting cultures when you travel: dressing appropriately in Jordan as a female…

Venturing through Jordan has been a journey of cultural immersion and respect. I’ve been mindful of my attire in this predominantly conservative country, where modest dressing aligns with local customs.

Remember, it’s not about strict rules or fear of repercussions; it’s about courtesy and the respect we carry for the places and people we encounter. I choose to dress conservatively to honor the traditions of those that belong to the country I’m only visiting.

In Jordan, this means opting for outfits that cover shoulders, knees, and avoid revealing too much chest—think breezy long dresses or if you’re wearing something form-fitting like skinny jeans, pair it with a longer top. Not only does it align with local norms, but trust me, in the Jordanian heat, loose clothing is a blessing!

Personally, I decided to pick up a few outfits upon arrival. It was more fun, and I always feel that the locals know how to dress for their climate better than I as an outsider might.

I’ve always loved learning about new cultures while I travel the world, so dressing appropriately is just part of that. There’s a certain charm in adapting to the local way of life, even if it’s just through the clothes I wear.. and even if I feel a bit ridiculous in doing so.
