Unexpected Finds in Palermo

One of my favorite things about travel - admiring all the different types of architecture all around the world!

Palermo, Sicily was especially amazing for this as it is SO rich in history… Often being referred to as the “world’s most conquered city”, each of the foreign dominations left their own mark in every corner of this incredible place.

From the Phoenicians, to the Greeks, the Carthaginians, the Romans, the Vandals, the Ostrogoths, the Byzantine Empire, the Arabs, the Normans, the Swabians (Hohenstaufen Dynasty), the Angevins, the Aragonese, the Spanish, the House of Savoy, the Austrians, the Bourbon Dynasty (Spanish Bourbons) and of course, finally the Kingdom of Italy (Italian Unification)!

So you can imagine the awe-inspiring visuals these cultures left here.

Here I was at La Palazzina Cinese or Chinese Palace - definitely something I didn’t expect to come across during a walk in a woodland area of Palermo :’)! More on this in an earlier post - see my story now for a link to that one! 👀
