Doorways to History: The Architectural Wonders That Make Budapest Unforgettable

Budapest - one of my most favorite cities in Europe for… the architecture! Just look at this door for an insight into the world of design that this city has to offer 👀.

If you’re anything like me, and you love indulging in architectural brilliance, Budapest needs to go at the top of your bucket list.

It’s the way this city manages to blend history with modernity that is just everything. From Medieval, Baroque & Classical to Art Nouveau & Neo-Gothic, all somehow seamlessly merging with new age builds - every single corner of this place has a story to tell & it’s a thrill to visit & see all of its wonders.

If you’ve already been, you’ll know what I mean when I say, while strolling through the streets, it almost feels like you’re floating, because there is just so much to look at - time just doesn’t exist.

If you’re short on time here though, my top recommendations are:

1. Buda Castle - the most obvious choice but really, there’s nothing like it so it is a must visit! It’s the most outrageous 304 metre facade that really needs an entire post for itself. Medieval, Baroque & modernist styles & a history that dates back to the 13th Century 🤯.

2. Fisherman’s Bastion - Neo-Gothic and Neo-Romanesque fairytale terrace & towers! And the view of the city from here is just breathtaking 😙👌

3. The Parliament Building - Almostttt as long as Buda Castle (268 metres!), this is the largest building in Hungary & wow does it make a statement with its Gothic Revival architecture and spectacularly intricately detailed design.

It’s not just about what you get to see though, it’s also about where you get to stay 🙌. I’m always all about quality accommodation (see last week’s posts on how this IS a travel savvy move) & Budapest is the best place for this with many of the apartments & hotels being a part of restored historical buildings, so you actually feel like you’re enveloped by the history, without having to leave the comfort of your home away from home.. Now pair that energy with a work day and just see how your creativity flows! It’s really some kind of magic. 🙌👩‍💻
