While I’ve moved past splurging on 5-star hotels & the hostel days are long behind me, I still value simplicity in my travel lifestyle. Simplicity doesn’t mean skimping on cost, but rather investing in what makes travel smoother. You don’t need to go 5-star, but when you can afford it, paying a bit more is often worth its weight in platinum, when it enhances your experience & cuts down on stress.
One of the biggest game-changers for me has been packing smart—traveling light not only saves on baggage fees but also spares you the headache of lost luggage, waiting for luggage & allows you to self transfer without having to go through immigration or re-check your bag. That’s savvy.
However, when it comes to accommodation, minimalism meets its match. I’ve often found myself frustrated with short term rental platforms, such as Airbnb, due to their inconsistent quality & what I consider basics. How often have you checked into an apartment only to find you have to buy shampoo, salt & pepper? These should be staples in any “home away from home.” Let’s not even start on the essentials like good mattresses & dependable WiFi!
