Solo Travel: The Gift of Intuition, Confidence, and Self-Discovery
Solo travel is the gift that keeps on giving - even an essential tool in your life skills toolkit.
I’ve been traveling full time for the last few years & of course, choosing such a different way of living comes with wild ups & downs - at times, it has been a complete rollercoaster ride. But every moment has been worth it. Here’s why:
One of the greatest gifts I have been given from my experience engaging in this way of life, is that I have had the opportunity to develop SUCH a strong sense of what my intuition is telling me & when I need to really listen to it.
You may be wondering how solo travel & a good gut instinct go hand in hand, but believe me they are imperative to each other.
When you travel by yourself, you have to learn how to make decisions, usually based on how you’re feeling in the moment. Nobody is telling you what to do, or where to go (& if they are, it could be a scam) - so you really have to get to grips with listening to what you really WANT. Then you need to put the actions into place to make it happen, & be ok with the outcome. By doing this over & over again, you gain a deep sense of self-trust. I believe it’s because you are only relying on yourself so you just have to learn to believe that you’re making the right choices.
However, occasionally things can get a bit prickly & you need to know how to read the environment & the people in it almost on the fly, without necessarily being able to speak the language.
What I have found is that for me, my gut will tell me when something may not be the safest situation - & solo travel has helped me become so good at reading that - & just taking action to ease that concerning feeling. There has been a number of times where, I can’t explain why, but I have changed my walking direction, & pushed to get of taxis early simply because I felt like I had to.
The more you travel, the more you get to know yourself. It’s like layers are removed & with every new experience, I’m getting to see how I react to it, knowing myself on a deeper level - & that is just so exciting.
