Why I Create a Routine in New Places π
As someone who travels frequently, Iβve come to realize the immense value of establishing a routine in each new place I visit. The thrill of travel often comes with the allure of unpredictability and constant change. Yet, amidst this ever-changing external world, maintaining a personal routine acts as my anchor, keeping me grounded and helping me manage the inherent uncertainties of nomadic life.
Traveling exposes you to new cultures, environments, and experiences. While this is one of my greatest joys in life, it can also be disorienting. Each new location brings its own rhythm, which can disrupt my internal clock and work-life balance if Iβm not careful.
Thatβs why I find it so beyond important to establish a routine that travels with me. From my morning meditation and the specific work schedule I try maintain (unless it makes more sense for enjoying the day with the time zone difference, but I always try to find consistency in the kinds of coworking spaces I choose to work at) and my daily gym workouts wherever I go!
For me, the key benefit of a routine is the sense of grounding it provides. With a lifestyle where your external conditions differ so much on a weekly / monthly basis- from time zones to accommodations to cultural norms - having some internal consistency keeps you emotionally and mentally stable. A set routine reduces stress and anxiety by creating predictability in an otherwise unpredictable life. Itβs comforting to have certain elements you can control, like when and how you start your day. π
